Alejandro Valverde will kick off the 2020 season with the four-race Mallorca Challenge, which will be held from January 30 to February 2. The Movistar team will begin preparations for the season kickoff with a team training camp at the Rafa Nadal Academy on January 26.
Four races will be held: the Trofeo Felanitx (January 30), Trofeo Serra de Tramuntana (January 31), Pollensa - Andratx (February 1), and Trofeo Playa de Palma (February 2).
Valverde traditionally starts his season with the Mallorca Challenge and has won the Trofeo Serra de Tramuntana twice (2013 and 2015).
Valverde will be supported by a team that includes Enric Mas, Marc Soler, Héctor Carretero, Dario Cataldo, Imanol Elviti, Antonio Pedrero, José Joaquín Rojas, Davide Vilela and Alberto Torres. Luis Mas will join the team after the Tour Down Under.
The team will hold a three-day training camp this weekend at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Movistar.
During the camp, the players will fine-tune their training and technical needs, meet with sponsors, and hold an early season press conference. The press conference will be attended by coach Eusebio Unzué and Valverde, Soler, and Enric Mas and will take place on January 28 at the Rafa Nadal Sports Center.
The Movistar team is currently competing in the Tour Down Under and will also send a team to the Vuelta a San Juan in Argentina starting January 26.
In December, Valverde announced that the 2020 Tokyo Olympics would be the focus of his season. Valverde will also participate in the Tour de France, but is unlikely to complete the three-week race, which will end six days before the elite men's road race in Tokyo.
