Alpecin Phoenix, with Mathieu Van Der Pol, has been confirmed among the six wildcard teams invited to the 2020 Amstel Gold Race on April 19.
Organizers announced the teams on social media on Monday and also confirmed the team of Arkea Samsic, Sport Vlaanderen Baloise, Circus Wanty Gobert, Liwart Redines and Wallonie Bruxelles.
Van der Pol won the 2019 Amstel Gold Race by pulling from a small group to a chase group and then to the lead group in the final kilometers of the race. When he made contact with the lead group with 300m to go, he went on to win the sprint for the win.
Van der Pol's Alpecin Phoenix is also confirmed as a wildcard team for Strade Bianche, Milan-San Remo, Tour of Flanders, Paris-Roubaix, and Ardennes Classics.
Van der Pol's spring campaign will include Strade Bianche, Milan-San Remo, Volta a Catalunya, Doire de Flanderen, Tour of Flanders, and Paris-Roubaix.
He has also stated that he will focus on mountain bike cross-country at this summer's Tokyo Olympics and has expressed interest in competing in the Vuelta a EspaƱa.
The 25-year-old will defend his rainbow band at next weekend's UCI Cyclocross World Championships in Switzerland.
Organizers have also confirmed that the Women's WorldTour Amstel Gold Race Ladies Edition will be held on April 19 in Maastricht-Berg en Terbrucht, the same day as the men's event. Last year, Poland's Kasia Niewiadoma (Canyon-Slam) won the women's title.
