Specialized has updated its lineup of Sirrus commuter bicycles for 2020.
Specialized's product lineup is particularly broad, but the Sirrus occupies a unique application within it. For the past few years, it has been Specialized's dedicated commuter and fitness bike, but even the Sirrus couldn't resist the trend toward more terrain riding.
For the 2020 model year, Specialized has introduced the Sirrus X, which is a new, more compact version of its predecessor. It also offers an impromptu adventure cycling experience for weekend fitness.
The geometry differences between the standard Sirrus and its X derivative are a 10 mm longer length and 15 mm higher height. The increased height is primarily for obstacle clearance when driving off-road.
Like other modern Specialized models, both versions of the Sirrus have gender-neutral geometry.
The new Sirrus X features specifications appropriately different from the standard Sirrus to provide a calm ride in gravel and related off-road terrain.
The Sirrus X is fitted with larger capacity tires, up to 42c, for better grip and road following, while the drivetrain has also been simplified, with a one-by system as opposed to the standard Sirrus, which uses two chainrings.
Perhaps the most attractive off-road-specific cycling features of the Sirrus X relate to its more premium derivatives, the 4.0 and 5.0. These bikes are equipped with Specialized Future shocks, which provide 20 mm of spring damping between the head tube and stem.
Specialized sells the new Sirrus X in an entry-level aluminum 2.0 derivative starting at £549. 3.0 is £699.
If you want composite construction and a Future Shock option, there is the £999 Sirrus X 4.0 (with carbon fork) and the £1599 5.0 (with all-carbon construction).
