Matteo Moschetti was involved in a high-speed crash on Friday's Etoile de Besseges stage 3, fracturing the right acetabular socket of his pelvis along with a dislocated right femur.
His team, Trek-Segafredo, confirmed the injuries in a press release and announced that he was taken directly to the Ales-Sévennes hospital in France for treatment following the accident.
"Matteo was anesthetized to reduce the dislocation, traction the limb, and release the joint," said team doctor Gaetano Daniele, who accompanied Moschetti to the hospital.
"Further medical checks did not reveal any further fractures or trauma to other parts of the body. This Saturday, he will undergo a new CT scan to determine if surgery is necessary."

Moschetti was involved in a crash on stage 3 of Etoile de Besseges. The crash occurred around 15 km from the finish. According to Trek-Segafredo, the 23-year-old Italian did not lose consciousness during the ordeal.
He started the 2020 season with two wins in his first race at Challenge Mallorca.
Trek-Segafredo will provide additional medical information on Moschetti's injury as new information becomes available.
