Early season racing has taken a heavy toll on the propeloton. The Dutch rider crashed on Friday's Etoile de Besseges stage, breaking his collarbone.
"Today at Etoile de Besseges, Sebastien Langefeldt lost control on the descent and broke his collarbone. We wish Sebastien and his family all the best and hope to see you on the road soon," EF Pro Cycling announced.
Meanwhile, Trek-Segafredo's Matteo Moschetti, who won two races at Challenge Mallorca, will need to undergo surgery for a broken hip socket suffered in a crash in France.
"Matteo underwent surgery under anesthesia to reduce the dislocation, traction the limb, and free the joint. Further medical checks revealed no fractures or trauma to other parts of the body," said Gaetano Daniele, Trek Segafredo's doctor.
After undergoing a CT scan, the doctors decided to operate. Matteo will be transported tomorrow to the Humanitas Gavazzeni clinic in Bergamo, where he will undergo surgery on Tuesday by Dr. Mario Arduini, a specialist in orthopedics, traumatology, and pelvic surgery. A decision on his recovery prospects will be made after the surgery. What is certain, unfortunately, is that the recovery time will not be short."
Tony Gallopin (AG2R La Mondiale) was the victim of a crash at the Volta a Comunitat Valencianna on Thursday and underwent surgery on Friday for a fractured navicular bone in his hand.
According to team doctors, he will be out of competition for 6-8 weeks.
