Snow and freezing temperatures expected for "spectacular" winter Old Man Rally

Organizers are expecting snow and freezing conditions for the Old Man Winter Rally in Colorado, USA, on Sunday.

The lineup for the event is impressive, with US road race champion Alex Howes (EF Pro Cycling) joined by Peter Stetina and Ian Boswell, the latter making his gravel racing debut as part of the Wahoo team; Dirty Kanza winners Colin Strickland and Amity Rockwell will also be on the start sheet, with approximately 1,200 participants lined up over the two course distances.

"The forecast calls for the most epic Old Man Winter Rally yet. Josh Kravetz, founder of the event and president of Adventure Fit, told Cycling News in an email on Saturday.

Snow has been falling in the area for over a week, and although it tapered off a bit on Saturday, it is expected to continue to fall again overnight.

"It is currently quite slushy as the sun is shining brightly and melting the snow from the roads. More snow will fall early tomorrow morning as temperatures stay below freezing all day," Kravetz added.

Due to the conditions, organizers expect some racers to switch from the 100 km course to a shorter 50 km course, but the race will still push the limits of the participants. The racers will tackle a course that mixes paved roads with long gravel roads and return to the finish line in Lyon.

Cycling News will report on the race and results on Sunday evening.
