Tom Dumoulin Delays Debut, Skips Tirreno - Adriatico

Tom Dumoulin announced on Instagram that he will miss the next two races after being unable to attend the high altitude training camps for Tirreno-Adriatico and Milano-San Remo.

The Jumbo Visma rider has not raced since last year's Criterium du Dauphiné after injuring his knee in a crash at the 2019 Giro d'Italia. He was scheduled to compete in the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana but returned home sick two days before the race.

Dumoulin said, "I was supposed to fly to the high altitude camp this Thursday to prepare for the next race, but I have to postpone it until I am back to 100% physical condition. I will skip Tirreno and MSR (Milan-San Remo) and change my race schedule.

Jumbo Visma announced in December that Dumoulin had fully recovered from his knee injury and would be unrestricted for the 2020 season.

He was named to the Tour de France team and hopes to target the Tokyo Olympics as well.

Dumoulin said of missing the March race, "I'm very disappointed because I felt great and I couldn't wait for the season to start. I'm disappointed, but I'll have to wait a little longer." To quote the famous philosopher RUN DMC, "That's the way it is, that's the way it is."
