Lemko Evenpoel, who was attacked by Astana's Miguel Angel Lopez on stage 4, is now tied with Dan Martin (Israel Startup Nation) and Max Schachmann (Bora-Hansgrohe) in time, with Lopez another second back in fourth place, Rui Costa (UAE Team Emirates) is another two seconds back in fifth place.
In a normal race, the time trial would be a suspenseful affair with the top overall riders so close together, but this time, 20-year-old Evenepoel, a time trial silver medalist at the UCI Road World Championships and overall winner at the Vuelta a San Juan, is the favorite to win. He is also the overall winner of the Vuelta a San Juan.
Evenepoel has already won one time trial this season and has the advantage of being the last rider to start from the start ramp at 16:00 local time for the 20.3km test in Lagoa.
David Livramento (Tavira Maria Nova Lounge Hotel) will be the first to take the course at 13:04 local time.
Cycling News will provide full live coverage of this stage with results, reports, news, and photos after the finish.
