Gianni Moscon was disqualified from the Couleurs Brussel-Coulomb for throwing his bike at another rider mid-race.
The Team Ineos rider was involved in a crash with about 65 km to go and fell into a ditch along with many other riders.
In a burst of frustration, he picked up his bike and threw it at the B&B Hotels - Vital Concepts rider.
A few kilometers later, the race radio announced Moscon's disqualification as "aggressive and unsportsmanlike conduct."
Upon being notified of his disqualification, Moscon took the first of his two race numbers, rolled it up, and threw it to the floor.
He then reached for the second number, stood up, ripped it in two, and threw it away.
This is not the first time Moscon has gotten into trouble with authorities: at the 2018 Tour de France, he was disqualified for punching Frenchman Elie Jezbert; at the 2017 World Championships, he was disqualified for clinging to a team car; at the 2017 World Championships, he was disqualified for "clinging to a team car.
In 2017, he was suspended by his own team for racially abusive remarks to Kevin Reza at the Tour de Romandie. He was later accused of crashing Sebastian Reichenbach (then Reza's teammate) and breaking his elbow and hip, but was later cleared for lack of evidence.
In late 2018, Moscon jokingly referred to past disciplinary issues.
"I glue my hands to the bars and I don't take a bidet.
"I don't want anyone to grab anything. You can't make everyone like you. There are a lot of people who are envious of me. But the people who know me will support me. That's all I need."
