The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) reported that six new coronavirus cases have been discovered during a tour of the UAE. The six people diagnosed with the new coronavirus are two Russians, two Italians, a German, and a Colombian. These patients are linked to two previously announced cases associated with a cycling event and a tour of the UAE." "MoHAP confirms that these cases are being monitored and the individuals are currently in stable condition and receiving all necessary medical care"
.
The new Covid-19 cases bring the total number of infected individuals in the UAE to 27, five of whom have reportedly fully recovered from their illness.
"All individuals not in direct contact with athletes or management teams were tested within two isolated hotels. Those who tested negative for coronavirus were allowed to leave the hotel grounds." The MoHAP stated, "Individuals currently in quarantine will be retested and tested for the virus to ensure their safety." UAE Team Emirates are remaining voluntarily as a precautionary measure. Cofidis, Groupama-FDJ, and Gazprom-Rusvelo remain in quarantine and remain on the fourth floor of the race venue's hotel, the Crown Royal Plaza Abu Dhabi Yas Island.
Earlier Tuesday, Tuttobiciweb (opens in new tab) reported that further tests were being conducted on several riders, including Gazprom-Rusvelo's Imelio Cima, who had received neither positive nor negative results in the second test.
"Some will have to undergo a third swab test," Cima's teammate Cristian Scaroni told Tuttobiciweb. 'It sounds like a comedy, but it's no laughing matter. We hope that Imelio will return to his hotel as soon as possible and that he will be allowed to leave."
[12Scaroni added that he contacted the Italian embassy to ask for their intervention, but was told that it was up to local authorities to arrange any inspection they deemed appropriate.
"We have to be patient," he said. We do, but it is getting harder and harder to sustain this imprisonment without information."
Cofidis' Nathan Haas and his Directeur Sportif, Roberto Damiani, have expressed frustration with the isolation, which lasts for five days. The team's official photographer, Mathilde Rasieux, spoke to Cycling News about the situation. 'The situation is still complicated,' he said. 'They bring lunch packets to the front of the room, but it's very strange. Personally, because of the food and the stress, I have lost three kilos since Thursday."
"Morale is not good right now," Rasou continued. 'The team is very united and that's the only thing that can save me from real depression. But how long will it last?
As of this morning, all three teams are awaiting their second viral test. Of the six newly reported cases, it is not yet known which teams are affected. The remaining teams, race organizations, and journalists covering the UAE tour were allowed to leave the country on Sunday.
