The coronavirus outbreak that led to the cancellation of global trade fairs like the Geneva Motor Show was an anomaly, and the Sea Otter Classic may follow a similar path, according to an announcement yesterday by the organizers of the largest bicycle festival in North America.
"We are closely monitoring the coronavirus situation and are continuing discussions with various agencies to determine the best course of action regarding the 2020 Sea Otter Classic," said Frank Yohannan, president and CEO of the Sea Otter Classic.
"We expect to make a final decision within the next few days. As you can imagine, there are many consequences to consider and we appreciate your patience."
The Sea Otter Classic may constitute a host of trade fairs that will be canceled in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak.
Outside of the Geneva Motor Show, the tech world's Mobile World Congress and Facebook's F8 Developers Conference have been canceled, along with the Chinese leg of F1 and Formula E and the final two stages of the UAE Tour of World Tour racing.
"We extend our sympathies to those affected by the coronavirus and our gratitude to all medical professionals who are fighting to stop the spread of the infection," Johannan said.
