Grupama-FDJ announced Wednesday that it will not be able to compete in the upcoming Strade Bianche, GP Larchiano (Industria & Artigianato), and Tirreno-Adriatico due to a lack of sufficient riders and staff due to the quarantine period at the UAE Tour.
"Due to the lack of a sufficient number of riders and staff, partly due to the quarantine period in the UAE, we regret to inform you that we will not be able to participate in the Strade Bianche, GP Larchiano and Tirreno-Adriatico.
The International Cycling Union (UCI) has announced that it has received reports of six more coronavirus cases among the teams participating in the UAE Tour. The six cases follow two cases last week in which two staff members of a team participating in a World Tour race were infected.
Earlier this week, La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that a total of 12 infected people had been found in the UAE touring contingent, and that four riders had been taken to hospital for medical support after becoming ill.
Groupama-FDJ confirmed that all players and staff on the UAE tour tested negative. However, additional testing may have revealed infected individuals on other teams.
The UCI has confirmed that health authorities in the Emirates have informed Groupama-FDJ's players and staff that they are Members of Groupama-FDJ, Cofidis, and Gazprom-Rusvelo were quarantined on the fourth floor of the team hotel until at least March 14.
