The Sea Otter Classic will be held at the Laguna Seca Recreation Area in Monterey, California, organizers announced today, as a growing number of events continue to be canceled due to the Covid-19 coronavirus outbreak. The outdoor cycling festival will feature races of various levels and disciplines, as well as a trade show featuring more than 500 companies showcasing their latest technologies to the cycling community.
Organizers have been closely monitoring the situation amid growing concerns about the spread of the disease, and today the event was postponed.
"After a thorough review of the coronavirus threat, we have decided to reschedule the Otter Classic in April," organizers announced in a statement sent to the media.7]
"Additionally, the People for Bikes and Sea Otter Classic will be rescheduled as the Bike Leadership reschedule the conference."
"We will be rescheduling the conference.
New dates for the rescheduled events have not yet been set.
"We are working with local officials to determine the best dates for the 2020 Otter Classic and Bicycle Leadership Conference," organizers said. We expect to announce those dates by the middle of next week."
The Sea Otter Classic is next on the list of major cancellations due to the coronavirus, with the RCS announcing the cancellation of the Strade Bianche and several teams refusing to race. Astana, Mitchelton-Scott, and Team Ineos have withdrawn from the race altogether, while Groupama-FDJ, Team Sweb, Jumbo-Visma, EF Pro Cycling, and AG2R La Mondiale have withdrawn from next week's Italian races, including Tirreno-Adriatico
The team is also withdrawing from the Italian races in the coming weeks.
Outside of cycling, the Geneva Motor Show, the tech world's Mobile World Congress, and Facebook's F8 developers conference were also canceled.
