In 2020, two of America's biggest stage races will be live streamed on Cycling News.
After successfully piloting live streaming of Redlands in 2019, CycleStream TV owner Leah Sturgis has announced live coverage of the Redlands Bicycle Classic and Tour of the Gila criterium stages, as well as all other stage video highlights were presented.
The Tour of the Gila had been held for 33 years and was in danger of being cancelled, but Sturgis helped keep the race going with sponsorship from Cyclestream TV and Wildlife Generation.
"The Gila is one of the most unique races in the U.S. and plays an important role for teams like Wildlife Generation and others trying to develop top American talent. Having covered Redlands last year, I saw firsthand what we were able to contribute to this event and knew we had to expand this model to other races," Sturgis said in a press release.
Jack Brennan, race director of the Tour of the Gila, said the live stream will allow the race to attract more and larger sponsors throughout the state and region." This partnership will not only save the 2020 race, it will allow our organization to introduce Silver City and the Tour of the Gila to partners across the state and secure broader funding to ensure the enduring safety of the race."[9
Noted cycling commentator Brad Thorner will produce the live coverage with Sturgis as director, and Thorner and Dave Taul will provide commentary for both races.
The relay will include high-resolution cameras, drone aerial photography, and in-car cameras, and will be broadcast live for free on Cyclingnews and CycleStream TV.
