Kate Courtney's Coach Jim Miller Returns to USA Cycling After 2 Years

USA Cycling announced Wednesday the resignation of Scott Schnitzbahn as Vice President of Elite Athletics and the return of Jim Miller as Director of Elite Athletics. [USA Cycling Chairman and CEO Rob DeMartini said, "We are grateful for Scott's service to this organization and its athletes. We are confident in our position and readiness as we head to Tokyo and look forward to delivering on our performance promise this summer."

Miller, who worked for USA Cycling for 17 years before leaving two years ago to work for Training Peaks, has a long history of success with the High Performance Program, leading the team to 14 Olympic medals, including three gold medals by Kristin Armstrong He had.

"I am excited to return to USA Cycling and build on our past successes to develop athletes who will help us win even more in the future.

"I am eager to share the data-focused learnings from TrainingPeaks that I have developed over the past several years with the future stars of USA Cycling."

Miller served as Athletic Director and then Vice President of Athletics, but after Schnitzspahn moved on from the U.S. Olympic Committee and USA Cycling was forced to review its selection procedures after a number of arbitration hearings prior to the 2016 Olympics, High Performance Vice President, and was replaced in that role by her appointment as Vice President of Performance. Miller, who had been Kristin Armstrong's personal coach, was accused of favoritism in Olympic selection.

As vice president of high performance, Miller was removed from the selection process and Schnitzspahn was assigned to oversee the selection of various world championships, but Schnitzspahn left before he had a chance to be involved in the selection process for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.

Miller has stayed close to elite athletics, mentoring 2018 mountain bike world champion and 2019 World Cup winner Kate Courtney.
