USA Cycling has suspended permits for all sanctioned races held in the United States until April 5 to address the Covid 19 coronavirus pandemic. The announcement follows the UCI's decision to suspend all races until April 3. [Due to the latest data on the spread of Covid-19 and the ability of the medical system to manage this crisis, USA Cycling recommends the immediate suspension or postponement of all sanctioned events and urges all race and event directors, clubs, coaches, riders, and members to immediately suspend all scheduled races and events to be immediately postponed or cancelled. This includes group rides, in-person group meetings, and any other gatherings," the U.S. Governing Body stated.
As a result of this decision, the Joe Martin Stage Race in Arkansas, the opening round of the USA Cycling Pro Road Tour scheduled for April 2-5, will be cancelled; the Alabama Cycling Classic, scheduled for April 18-19, may still take place; and the Alabama Cycling Classic, scheduled for April 20-21, may still be held.
The Pro Road Tour's Tour of the Gila (April 29-May 3) and Redlands Bicycle Classic (April 22-26) have already announced the cancellation of this year's events, and USA Critz has announced the cancellation of the series opener, the Sun City Crit.
"This decision was made by El Paso officials in the best interest of the community and participating athletes. We support their decision and look forward to the August 22 event."
USA Cycling said it will continue to monitor the latest developments and meet with partners during this national emergency to gauge the impact on the cycling community.
"USA Cycling is taking measures within our control and urging everyone involved in the sport to protect our communities.
