RGT Cycling (Road Grand Tours) has responded to the seriousness with which the coronavirus is hitting riders.
The global health crisis has already decimated the European racing season and now threatens recreational outdoor training.
Alex Serban, founder and CEO of RGT, believed that this exceptional measure was justified by the current unprecedented global health crisis. He said, "As the impact of COVID-19 is being felt around the world, this mission is more important than ever, and as we see inspiring communities coming together to support one another, it has become clear that we need to do all we can to help."
RGT's premium package normally costs £12.99 per month, but Servan is now offering it for free, hoping to ease the anxiety of fluid cycling spectators." While it is easy to focus on profit, we hope that the removal of this restriction will provide free access for all and offer some support to the cycling community."
With Italian and Spanish authorities banning recreational riding and outdoor training, the pressure for indoor isolation is very real for many cyclists, amateur and professional alike The most powerful feature of RGT since the product launch in late 2019, Magic Roads software coding. This allows riders to upload a GPX file, which is then interpreted by RGT's custom software to create a virtual road with all the proper directional changes and terrain ridges.
At a time when the outdoor cycling community is in crisis, Servan is hopeful for greater industry cooperation. 'I sincerely hope that this initiative sets a precedent and that other companies will join the #rideitout movement. We are already in discussions with many friends and partners in the cycling industry to encourage and enable them to do more to support the global cycling community at this time."
[12With the uncertainty of whether regular outdoor riding will return in the foreseeable future, RGT is now offering riders the option to virtually recreate some of the freedom of mindful cycling.
