Ritchie has released an even wider version of its VentureMax drop handlebar.
Tom Ritchie's eponymous component company has always been a strong supporter of gravel biking. The legendary American cyclist is known for his daily exploratory rides on the best gravel routes in Northern California, which is why this new VentureMax XL handlebar is a natural product evolution.
The VentureMax XL is designed to provide excellent control and leveraged steering input on gravel surfaces.
Gravel bikers know that a slightly calmer steering response is better on loose surfaces. Most gravel drop handles are designed for the quick steering response and narrow aero width required for road riding.
With the VentureMax series, Ritchie is attempting to break away from legacy road influences in gravel bike component design. This new VentureMax XL version is a testament to that.
Shaped in 7050 triple-butted aluminum, Ritchie's Venture Max XL has a 520mm top and 647mm overall, given the flared-out construction of the entire handlebar. However, Ritchie finds that gravel riders have different requirements than other disciplines, and he believes he is gaining more confidence in the concept of wider handlebars.
The Venture Max XL also features a 75 mm reach and 102 mm drop. An interesting feature of the handlebar's drop shape is Ritchie's BioBend, which provides a short, straight platform for hands to ride on.
Ritchey lists the total weight of the Venture Max XL at 325g, and the 31.8mm clamp diameter means that mounting your favorite handlebar accessories should be no problem.
The Ritchey VentureMax XL is priced at £95.00
