Coronavirus Lotto Soudal player voluntarily reduces salary

The riders of the Lotto Soudal men's team voluntarily waived part of their wages "in solidarity with the staff and sponsors" as the cycling season is suspended due to the coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic.

The 27 riders, along with the entire management team and all administrative staff, voluntarily decided to waive part of their wages until the team races again at a yet-to-be-determined time.

The Belgian WorldTour team announced that 25 people (the majority of the support staff), including mechanics, soigneurs, physiotherapists, and bus drivers, would be temporarily unemployed and would rely on benefits provided by the government to fill the gap until racing could resume. The Belgian government's measures will allow companies to reduce labor costs without having to lay off workers. In less than a month, more than one million people in Belgium have been left temporarily unemployed.

Lotto-Soudal got off to a good start before the season began to fall apart, with sprinter Caleb Yuan taking two stage wins in January's Tour Down Under and Briton Matthew Holmes taking a surprise victory on the Queen stage of Willunga Hill.

Euan took his third win of the season in the UAE Tour, but that race was cancelled, starting a chain of cancellations and postponements that ultimately stopped his season.
