Mikel Landa jokingly took an axe to his home trainer, venting his frustration at not being able to train on public roads due to his confinement.
The Basque rider posted a short video on Twitter of him approaching his home trainer with an axe. He looks angrily at the camera and swings the axe down. The video does not show Randa destroying the home trainer, but rather edited footage of the funeral, which seems to symbolize the home trainer's funeral.
The video has already been viewed more than 270,000 times on Twitter and 50,000 times on Instagram. Hundreds of comments have been received from fellow pro riders such as Jacopo Guarnieri and Luis Angel Mate, as well as comments reminding us of Landa's unique sense of humor and often unusual take on life.
Landa is with Movistar and recently appeared in a Netflix documentary series about the team after clashing with fellow team leader Nairo Quintana at the Tour de France; he joined Bahrain McLaren for 2020; he has been a member of the team for the past three years; and he has been a member of the team for the past three years, Tour de France, he was named team leader.
In February, he was hit by a car during training and broke a rib. Landa made a promising season debut three weeks later at the Vuelta a AndalucĂa, finishing third overall, but did not compete in Paris-Nice and did not race again until the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic interrupted all racing.
On Wednesday, Cycling News learned that Bahrain McLaren riders were forced to defer 70% of their payments for three months. The riders were informed at a team briefing on April 1 that their salaries for March, April, and May would all be affected.
"Like many businesses around the world, our revenues at this time of year are subject to great uncertainty. In a letter sent to riders and staff, Bahrain McLaren stated that it is "acting in the long-term interests of riders and staff to ensure that we have the means to operate at a competitive and viable level once this crisis has abated."
"While we recognize that a temporary reduction in riders' income is difficult, we hope you understand the seriousness of the challenges we face as a team. The contributions and support of all riders and staff before, during, and after this pandemic are greatly appreciated."
