The CCC-Liv team continues to prepare for a possible race season restart despite news that the owners of Polish footwear company CCC are being forced to cut costs as business suffers due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic Despite the news that they have been forced to cut costs as their business struggles with the pandemic of the coronavirus, they are still preparing for a possible restart of the racing season, they told Cyclingnews.
The Polish website Rowery reported last week that CCC head Dariusz Mirek is considering cutting spending as the company's stock price has fallen 90% compared to 2018 and first-quarter earnings are down 9% year-over-year.
"Our main sponsor, CCC, was unfortunately hit hard by the coronavirus. We understand that our followers and supporters are concerned that this will affect CCC-Liv, and the CCC-Liv team told Cycling News that "anything we say at this stage is just speculation, which is something we want to avoid."
The company, also the main sponsor of the men's WorldTour CCC team, announced that it would suspend contracts with most of the team's support staff and significantly reduce the salaries of all riders for the remainder of the 2020 season.
Although the CCC team and CCC-Liv have the same title sponsor, they do not operate under the same management, but are separate organizations.
Due to public health concerns over the coronavirus, the UCI suspended all racing until June 1. Cancellations and postponements of the Women's World Tour include the Tour of Chongmin Island, Strade Bianche, Bevrijsinslonde van Drenthe, Trofeo Alfredo Binda, Dreiderghe Bruges des Pannees, Ghent-Wevelgem, Tour of Flanders, Ardennes Classic, and the Women's Tour. The IOC also postponed the Tokyo Olympics until July 2021.
"The coronavirus affects everyone and is relevant to CCC-Liv," the team told Cycling News. 'Now that there are no races in the immediate future, how do we keep the riders motivated? How do we monitor and promote the health of our riders and staff? What alternatives can we offer sponsors?
Many countries are in some form of blockade and riders are moving their training programs indoors. Ashley Moolman-Pasio, who currently lives in Spain, uses virtual training software to stay in shape. She recently published a blog on her website attesting to six things she has learned about riding indoors.
"The men's and women's teams operate as separate organizations, and so far the women's team is riding as normally as possible under the Covid 19 restrictions," she told Cycling News.
"We are still training hard and doing our best to stay positive. And that's what we love most ...... We are looking forward to getting back into bike racing.
The sports governing bodies continue to provide updates on their websites on cancellations and postponements of events due to the new coronavirus. At the same time, they are working with race organizers to determine changes in dates for later in the season.
"I wish all sponsors, fans, and other followers strength in these unrealistic and difficult times. Most of all, I hope everyone stays healthy. That is the most important thing," the team told Cycling News.
"In the meantime, we are doing everything possible to prepare for the restart. Only, of course, if it is responsible in relation to public health."
