Team Ineos Announces Zwift Ride and Race for Sunday, April 12

Team Ineos announced that it will hold its first virtual ride and race on the Zwift platform on Sunday, April 12.

Team Ineos is the latest team to host a virtual ride and race with fans during the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

Mitchelton Scott was one of the first teams to create a series with their different riders, assigning tasks to different digital platforms for other teams to entertain fans.

Last Sunday, the Flanders Classic hosted the "Ronde2020 Lockdown edition" with Greg Van Avermaert (CCC Team), Remco Evenpole (Deceuninck-QuickStep), 2019 Tour de Flanders winner Alberto Bettiol (EF Pro Cycling) and others raced on the BKool digital platform. Van Avermaert won solo, and the race reportedly attracted 600,000 viewers on Belgian television and thousands of viewers worldwide on other platforms.

Zwift is hosting a number of races and rides during CVOVID-19, including the Pro/AM Zwift Classics.

Velon announced the Swiss 5-Race Series on the Rouvy platform, with 15 major men's WorldTour teams racing daily from April 22-26 on the route of the Tour de Suisse stages.

Team Ineos did not confirm the names of the participating riders, but the race could feature 2019 Tour de France winner Egan Bernal against teammate and 2018 Tour de France winner Geraint Thomas. It is also possible that the Classics riders will compete on the day Paris-Roubaix was scheduled to take place before the race was cancelled or postponed due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

"The eRide is an opportunity to participate in a group ride with team riders and staff, with routes suitable for all abilities. You can watch the ride on Team Ineos' social media channels," Team Ineos announced.

The ride is scheduled for 3 pm BST, one hour behind CET, with Team Ineos riders leading each group on the Watopia Flat course. The riders' names will be announced on the day of the event. There will be a total of three group rides, each with four different pace categories. Participants will wear the orange Team Ineos training colors and have the chance to ride a team-supplied Pinarello F12 bike.

The inaugural "Team Ineos eRace" will start at 5 p.m. BST and will be streamed live on the team's Facebook and YouTube channels, with commentary and rider interviews by Eurosport's Rob Hatch and Matt Stevens.
