If you think you can beat Amber Neben to the top of Cap de Formentor, the Stelvio Pass, and Mont Ventoux, now is your chance. The former world champion has partnered with virtual platform RGT Cycling to launch The 3 Summit Challenge (opens in new tab), April 24-26, to help raise funds for No Kid Hungry during the coronavirus pandemic.
"In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, we will all be watching, hoping to do something tangible to help on a larger level. Across the country, schools are closed and millions of children have lost the school meals they depended on. Join our challenge and help us raise funds for needy children," a statement on the event's website reads.
"In lieu of a race entry fee for the 3 Summits Challenge, please consider making a donation to No Kid Hungry. They partner directly with food banks in our area to provide 10 meals for hungry children for every $1 donated."
Make a donation on the No Kid Hungry (opens in new tab) page. The event has already raised nearly $1,000 of its $5,000 goal.
The first race in the 3 Summits Challenge will begin on April 24 with a climb to the top of Cap de Formentor, one of the toughest climbs in Majorca, Spain. The virtual race heads to northern Italy on April 25 for the summit of the Stelvio Pass. Then on April 26, the three summit races will conclude on the summit of Mont Ventoux in northern France.
The 3 Summits Challenge will be held in an omnium format, allowing participants to complete any or all of the three summits. In addition, there will be a podium each day, with the overall winner determined by the lowest overall finish.
All that is required to participate in the 3 Summits Challenge is to sign up for a free RGT Premium account. However, registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis, as the number of participants is limited to 200.
The 3 Summit Challenge will also be live streamed by RGT and recorded for viewing.
