Rohan Dennis Deletes Social Media Accounts for Alleged Violation of Confinement Rules

Rohan Dennis deleted his social media accounts after posting a photo of himself breaking a blockade in Spain.

The Team Ineos rider is still on Facebook, but deleted his Instagram and Twitter accounts on Friday.

According to a screenshot taken by an Instagram user, Dennis posted a view from the driver's seat of his car earlier in the day, which was marked as Girona in northeastern Spain, where he lives.

The caption read: "Day 34 - cracked and left home. #covid19 can suck my ass.

Team Ineos declined to comment when contacted by Cycling News.

When one Instagram follower suggested that the photo should not have been posted publicly, Dennis responded: I'm not going to be your favorite drone who shows you his "perfect world" as an elite athlete. Which do you want, the real one or the fake one?"

When another suggested that he needed to apologize later for his post, he replied: "Imagine if everyone lived in your ideal world, you wouldn't be able to voice your opinions or express your feelings."

Spain was one of the countries most severely affected by the new coronavirus pandemic, killing more than 20,000 people. Confinement measures are among the most severe in the world, and people are not even allowed to leave their homes to exercise.

Dennis continues to train indoors and last week won the Team Ineos virtual race on the online platform Zwift.

This is not the first time Dennis has withdrawn from social media. The same was true for Dennis after his abrupt retirement from last year's Tour de France,

who later revealed that he was trying to avoid backlash for his mental health.
