Alchemy's powerful new gravel bike e-Ronin

Alchemy adds e-bike to its gravel bike portfolio. Alchemy, a boutique Colorado bicycle brand known for its custom geometry and in-house carbon fiber construction, has added its first battery-assisted frame.

Gravel bikers who want pedal assist to log ridiculous mileage now have an option: the Alchemy e-Ronin.

Alchemy has evolved the brand's Ronin gravel bike frame by adding an easily removable lithium-ion battery pack and placing an e-drive unit on the bottom bracket. This gives riders the choice of pedaling the e-Ronin as a conventional gravel bike or slotting in the battery to reduce energy fatigue on long rides.

Alchemy's e-Ronin uses a larger diameter bottom tube to accommodate the 250 Wh battery pack and a larger bottom bracket for the motor.

The e-Ronin can be run as a gravel bike with a conventional drivetrain and can be completely decoupled from the Fazua Evation e-Drive system, making it virtually a zero-drag bike.

The e-Ronin frame is designed and built to be gravel road buzz-proof, with generous tire selection, a 27.2mm seat post, and structural compliance with the frame's composite construction and tubing profile.

Alchemy also certifies that the e-Ronin can be equipped with 700c x 45mm or 650b x 2.1" tires. This allows owners to choose tires with more volume and grip for winter riding, or tires with lower rotating mass and better mud protection.

The e-Ronin with all of its battery and drive technology weighs 12.7 kg. e-Ronin is available from Alchemy in five frame sizes (52-61 cm) and a variety of build options.

The frame-only e-Ronin costs $6,499. The Shimano GRX is $8,499, and the e-Ronin with Dura-Ace Di2 or SRAM Red AXS is $12,499 with Enve wheels and finishing kit.

Riders can choose custom geometry, which adds $1,000 to the pricing.
