Gaviria, fully recovered from the coronavirus, once again participates in training.

UAE Team Emirates sprinter Fernando Gaviria is training again at home in Colombia after fully recovering from a coronavirus infection.

Gaviria announced on March 12 that he had tested positive for COVID-19, two days earlier than the UAE Tour, which ended at the end of February when it became clear that the virus had struck race officials.

A number of team riders and staff, including French WorldTour teams Cofidis and Groupama-FDJ, were forced to stay at a race hotel in Abu Dhabi to undergo further medical tests. Later, a 25-year-old sprinter tested positive for coronavirus, and the Russian professional team Gazprom-Rusvelo also announced that Dmitry Strakhov had tested positive.

Gaviria was discharged from the hospital on March 27 and returned to his home country from the UAE on April 8, and after a quarantine period in the Colombian capital Bogota, he was able to return to his hometown of La Ceja, near MedellĂn.

Gaviria is now training again, but so far only tentative dates for the Tour de France (August 29-September 20) have been given as to when he will resume competition.

"This virus is proving to be more serious than I imagined," Gaviria said in a video update posted on Instagram on Wednesday. 'For me personally, I've had to suffer for a few days. But now I'm home, I feel good, and I'm back to training."

"I am training from home because there are vulnerable people we need to protect in times like these. I send my support to them and everyone else and hope it all ends soon."
