During the January Tour Down Under, the Cycling News technical team noticed that the CCC team was wearing an unannounced Giant helmet. This week, the Taiwanese cycling brand finally unveiled its new Giant and Liv Rev Pro helmets.
The updated Rev Pro serves as the brand's top-of-the-line lid for road, cross-country, and gravel bikes. According to Giant, it combines elements of both the previous model and the Pursuit Aero Helmet. Giant makes no specific claims about aerodynamics, only noting that it was designed using computational fluid dynamics and tested in the ACE wind tunnel.
By all appearances, it features 21 deep vents, which should provide ample airflow.
"The Rev helmets were popular among our pro racers, so that was our starting point," said Kurtzman. Our goal was to create something lighter, more comfortable for all-day training rides, and with improved aero performance." The end result is a super versatile option that can be used for a variety of riding and racing disciplines. The improved breathability keeps you cool on long, hot climbs, and the aero shape gives you an advantage for all-out sprints and escapes.
Using multi-density EPS foam for improved energy dispersion upon impact, the helmet also features an in-mold outer shell and a secondary in-mold shell soaked in EPS foam to maintain integrity during crashes.
Inside, there is a MIPS liner integrated into the 5-position Cinch Pro under the TransTextura Plus antimicrobial pad. The dial retention system utilizes a band that circles the wearer's head to distribute pressure evenly. The Cinch Pro retention system also accommodates ponytails.
Since this helmet is proposed as an option for XC racers, it appears to have an appropriate rear cover to protect the back of the head.
The helmets will be available on June 1, in four colors for men and two colors for women, priced at TBC £250/$250/$350 AUD.
