According to Gregory Deveau, co-chairman of the organizing committee, a decision on whether or not the 2020 World Championships in Aigle and Martigny will be held will likely be made in late June.
Although the coronavirus outbreak in Switzerland has prohibited all gatherings of more than 1,000 people until at least the end of August, Deveau said the organizing committee is "reasonably confident" that the 2020 World Championships will be held as scheduled from September 20 to 27 ."
"We have to be humble about the current situation, with respect to those who are fighting the virus every day," Deveau told the RTS program "Sport Dimanche" (opens in new tab).
"It's definitely a celebration of cycling. We need to be consistent in the decisions we make and we can't be stubborn."

"In its current configuration, it will either take place this fall or never. On the other hand, it could be postponed to a later date, such as 2026 or 2027, but that would probably be a different model."
The 2021 World Championships are set to be held in Flanders, with Wollongong (2022), Glasgow (2023), and Zurich (2024) also named as possible venues; the 2025 World Cup is set for Africa, but the venue is yet to be decided The host city has not yet been decided.
Deveau indicated that a decision on the host city for the 2020 World Championships will be made within the next two months. We will make a decision before the summer, by the end of June," he said.
