Looking for an expensive, one-of-a-kind truck pump for your garage? Yeah, really expensive.
It's a return to the sophisticated, gentlemanly roadside mechanic, a world away from frenetic mini-pumps and CO2 cartridges.
And then there are truck pumps. These are upright, reliable, workshop-style pumps that allow you to inflate your tires perfectly and easily from the comfort of your home or garage. They tend to be a bit pricey, but if you follow the "buy often, buy once" principle, a decent one should last you many years, if not a lifetime.
And there's nothing better than this Pegoretti Chiaveete version of the Silca Super Pista Ultimate. Many of Cycling News' "eBay Finds" are used or NOS (New Old Stock), but this one is actually new, according to the seller. Let's "discuss" the price of this eBay listing at the end.
This beautiful pump combines the Silca SuperPista Ultimate track pump with a design by Dario Pegoretti, a famous Italian frame builder and painter who passed away in 2018.
Silca - a well-known Italian pump manufacturer that was acquired in 2013 and is now based in the U.S. - has a great selection of track pumps available, and their website currently offers this SuperPista Ultimate in a slightly less expensive Richard Sachs Edition (opens in new tab) special version is also available for US$800.
The "Final Edition" in this American eBay seller's details refers to the fact that no more will be made, but its stunning Ciavete paint job (the one and only paint option for Pegoretti's custom frames) ensures that this is truly one of a kind anyway. Ciavete is a kind of derogatory word in Pegoretti's Trentino dialect, meaning "forget it" or "whatever."
The paint job is a bit of a misnomer, as the paint job is not a "one-of-a-kind" paint job, but rather a "one-of-a-kind" paint job.
So if you like the sound of it, and you or someone you know fits the "cyclist who has everything" description, you'll be butt-hurt here. The pump is listed on eBay for US$49,999 (£40,150), which could buy you a pretty decent car. Or better yet, buy a couple of top-notch bikes. Pegoretti still operates in Verona, and you could probably even buy a custom-made Pegoretti frame.
We are always on the lookout for unique and rare cycling relics on eBay. If you have any suggestions or leads, please contact us at [email protected] with "eBay Finds" in the subject line.
