Redlands Bicycle Classics announced last month that it had joined the list of events canceled across the United States due to the coronavirus pandemic.
This long-running U.S. stage race has instead been moved to a two-day event on Friday and Sunday on the virtual training and racing platform Zwift.
The two-day event was organized by Project Echelon Racing and created an opportunity for North American national elite and professional teams to race during the new coronavirus pandemic.
Racing began on Friday with the Virtual Redlands Bicycle Classic Criterium. Holden Comeau (Saris + The Pro's Closet) won the 31km criterium in 1:01:04, winning the group sprint by one second over Cory Williams (L39ion LA) and Ryan Larson (Indoor Cyclist).
The second day of racing, Sunday, featured the Virtual Redlands Bicycle Classic Road Race. The men's team completed three laps of the Greater London Loop, climbed Box Hill, and then made their way down the finish line at high speed. Alex Fraser-Maraun (Landis Trek) won the sprint race, with Williams in second and Larson in third.
Video replays of the criterium and road race are below.
