Three-time road racing world champion Marianne Vos (CCC-Liv) happily admits that she has little experience racing in indoor, online races, which have surged in popularity since the introduction of social differentiation measures worldwide in the wake of the coronavirus.
Vos is a member of the FDJ Nouvelle-Aquitaine Futuroscope's Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig and the TIBCO-Silicon Valley Bank ( Leah Dixon of TIBCO-Silicon Valley Bank) over six laps of Zwift's Innsbruck World Championship Circuit (8.8km) at 52.8km.
Uttrup Ludwig's attack late in the race looked like it would give her the win, but Voss used her aero power-up to overtake her in the last 150m to win.
"There was an attack by Cecilie who tried to surprise the group and I almost broke away from them.
"In the final sprint I really had to give it my all. Compared to a road race, you have to time it right and try to save energy where you can.
"I don't have that much experience with Zwift. I got tips and tricks from my teammates. People who had raced before gave me good information on how to power up," Vos admitted, citing Ashley Moolman Pasio and Lierjanne Marcus, whom she thanked immediately after her victory.
"You can't use it all the time," she said of the training app Boost, which helps give the popular training tool a video game feel.
When asked about her home setup, Voss explained that she races on a Tacx Neo turbo trainer in her garage.
"It's nice to have the right setup. The fans are there, the screens are good, the trainer is good. It's fun, but it's still hard," said Vos, who will return for the second stage of the five-stage Tour for All on Tuesday.
