The Astana Pro Team won the Giro d'Italia Virtual with a fourth place finish on the final stage won by the Italian duo of Filippo Ganna and Jonathan Milano. In the women's pink race, Astana won the final stage, but conceded overall victory to Trek-Segafredo.
On Saturday's seventh and final stage, participants used the Turbo Trainer to simulate the final stage of the real Giro.
It was no surprise that Ganna, the world record holder in individual Pursuit, proved to be the fastest individual on the course with a time of 22:30.
Adding his time to the Milan time, the Italian National Team totaled 47:50, giving them the stage win by 15 seconds over the Vini-Zabu-KTM pair of Simone Bevilacqua and Veliko Stojnich.
The Astana Pro team built a commanding overall lead on the stage, with the final pair of Davide Martinelli and Manuel Boaro winning the final day by 49:57 over Jumbo-Visma, who represented Primoz Roglic and Tobias Foss on the final day. They finished in a time of 49 minutes and 57 seconds. Androni Giocattoli Sidermec finished third overall, more than an hour ahead of Astana.
Katia Ragusa's 24:40 was the best personal time in the pink race. Ragusa and Liliana Moreno's efforts helped Astana take the stage win by 44 seconds over the Trek-Segafredo pair of Ellen van Dijk and Letizia Paternoster.
The efforts of van Dijk and Paternoster helped Trek-Segafredo take the final overall win by 24:07 from the Italian national team.
The 2020 Giro d'Italia was scheduled to start on Saturday in Budapest, but was postponed to March due to the coronavirus outbreak. The Corsa Rosa will now run from October 3-25, and the Grande Partenza has been moved to southern Italy.
