Last week, the UCI released a revised WorldTour calendar for August through November, incorporating most of the WorldTour-level races that had not yet been held since the season interruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in March.
France and Italy have prepared a revised calendar, but the rescheduled races on their national calendars have not yet been finalized.
According to "Tuttobiciweb" (opens in new tab), Italy will host 12 more races after August, in addition to the national championship and the four World Tour races already confirmed.
The proposal will reportedly be submitted to the UCI on Monday, and the sport's governing body has set a deadline of May 20 to organize national calendars and create a complete professional calendar.
Italy's new schedule places Milan-Torino and Gran Piemonte between Strade Bianche and Milan-San Remo, with the Settimana Coppi e Bartali in early September. In the run-up to the Giro d'Italia, one-day races such as the Giro della Toscana, Coppa Sabatini, and GP Beggelli will be held.
Meanwhile, the Trittico Lombardo with Tre Valli Varesine, Coppa Agostoni, and Coppa Bernocchi will be replaced by one race in Lombardy. The Adriatica Ionica race, Tour de Alps, and Giro di Sicilia will not take place in 2020.
According to WielerFlits (opens in new tab), the French calendar also includes the Tour d'Occitanie from August 1-4, followed by stage races Tour de l'Ain, Tour du Limousin, Tour Po Watteau-Charentes-en-Nouvelle-Aquitaine will be held in late August after the Criterium du Dauphiné.
The Mont Ventoux-Denivelle Challenge will be held on August 6, and one-day races such as Paris-Camembert, Paris-Tour, and GP des Nations will be held throughout September and October. The French Championships are currently scheduled for August 21-23, but Mayor Plumelec recently expressed opposition to holding them on that date
since France prohibits rallies of more than 5,000 people until at least September.
Both calendars are being communicated as proposals at this stage and will require UCI approval before they can be finalized. Cofidis manager CĂ©dric Vasseur has already spoken about the difficulties of balancing the WorldTour and national calendars.
The French manager told Cycling News on Sunday that he hopes to be exempted from the obligation to compete in national calendar races in order to better manage his schedule from August to November.
"I like races like the Tour du Limousin and GP Fulmi, but in the end I need a choice. Vasseur said.
