Lane Maher Climbs Over 100,000 Feet in One Ride for "Black Lives Matter"

American cyclocross racer Lane Maher climbed 100,000 feet (30,500m), almost 3.5 times the height of Mount Everest, to raise money for the Black Lives Matter movement.

The 19-year-old from Harwinton, Connecticut, who is a member of the Cannondale p/b Cyclocross World Development team, rode the Strava segment "Millstone to Lookout," covering 585 miles (942 km), traveling over 60 hours and elapsing time of 72 hours and 40 minutes.

"Millstone to Lookout" is a Category 4 climb near Barkhamsted Reservoir in the northern part of the state. It is 1.83 km long, with an average grade of 7% and a maximum grade of over 40%; according to Maher's Strava data, he completed this climb 183 times on a Cannondale SuperX cyclocross bike modified for road use.

Throughout the ride, Maher averaged 126 watts and a heart rate of 105 beats per minute, with maxes of 911 watts and 240 bpm, respectively. From this data, Strava calculated that Ma burned over 26,000 calories.

Ma spent a third of the ride with Nick Marti, "Everesting" the 305 km with 10,000 m elevation gain in just over 17 hours.
