Riders protest safety at Tour de Luxembourg

During the opening kilometers of the second stage of the Tour of Luxembourg, riders staged an impromptu protest to express their concerns about vehicles on the race route.

After Tuesday's opening stage, respected Italian rider Jacopo Guarnieri (Groupama-FDJ) took to social media to highlight the dangers faced by the riders, with parked cars on both sides of the road in the final kilometers of the stage and even a bus parked on the road during the steep descent with 4.5 km remaining. He revealed that there were parked vehicles on both sides of the road in the last few kilometers of the stage, and even a bus was parked on the road on the steep descent with 4.5 kilometers to go. [He also revealed that teammate Ignatas Konovalovas was stuck in traffic early in the race and had to wait at a traffic light. Television footage confirmed that there was a vehicle on the race route.

The riders had apparently spoken to race organizers about the hazards on the road prior to the second stage, and when they encountered further problems, they stopped the race at the 18 km mark and demanded countermeasures.

After negotiations with the race organizers and the UCI Commissary, the riders agreed to neutralize the 80km to Siren and race the 42km around Hesperan on the planned circuit. Race organizers announced a new stage start in Siren.
