Adidas has announced the next addition to its newly expanding portfolio of cycling shoes, the Velosamba. Taking the design of the iconic samba shoe, Adidas has added 2-bolt clipless support and structural improvements to aid performance on the bike.
This came three months after Adidas Road Shoes announced its return to cycling after a 15-year absence. At the time, Adidas spoke of a long-term journey to create a variety of products that would enhance the cycling experience, and it is clear that the new Velosava is the next step in that journey.
With the recent rise in popularity of cycling, Adidas anticipates an increase in demand for their products from casual and avid cyclists alike.
"Our ambition is to meet the needs of the rapidly developing new cycling culture by creating accessible, high-quality products that allow more people to get into cycling with their shoes on," said Adidas Specialist Sports General Manager, Celine Del Genes explains.
The shoes are the brand's first to target the casual cyclist and were developed in consultation with Adidas and the cycling communities in cities around the world, including London and Los Angeles.
"Velosamba leverages our street style heritage and expertise in cycling to bring something truly unique to cyclists," added Del Genes.
From any angle, except for the sole, the shoes are virtually indistinguishable from the Samba street shoes they are modeled after. The three stripes and heel are reflective to increase visibility in low-light conditions, and, perhaps as a subtle nod to the tan sidewall enthusiasts, the Velosamba comes with a gum sole.
In addition to the two-bolt cleat compatibility built into the fully integrated rubber cup outsole, the shoe features a recycled nylon insole board to increase the shoe's rigidity.
Available in four colors, the Velosamba has an MSRP of £100.00/$120.00/€120.00 and is exclusive to the Adidas website and app.
