Ruth Winder will miss Liege-Bastogne-Liege after coming into contact with someone who recently tested positive for COVID-19. Trek-Segafredo rider and U.S. national road champion Ruth Winder will miss the race despite testing negative for the virus Sunday morning. The rest of the Trek-Segafredo riders, including the men's team, were cleared to race. [Unfortunately, Ruth Winder will miss the Liège-Bastogne-Liège race. 'Ruth tested negative on three occasions, but in accordance with our protocol, she has been withdrawn from the race and placed in quarantine. The rest of the women's team, the men's team, and the team staff all tested negative."
Winder's absence is another blow for Trek-Segafredo after defending champion Lizzie Deignan was forced to rest due to illness. Trek Segafredo has rested Lizzie Dayignan due to illness, but will still be racing with a strong field led by Elisa Longo Borghini.
Winder was in the midst of a fantastic spring campaign. She finished in the top 10 at La Flèche Wallonne despite an attack just before the final climb, and took the win at Brabantspaille after a photo finish; the 27-year-old is now preparing to race at the Serratigit Festival Elsie Jacobs at the end of April.
