Raleigh just launched the Array, a brand new commuter e-bike with all the bells and whistles at a very fair price.
Raleigh, one of the oldest cycling brands, is keeping up with current market demand by making the Array a contender for the best electric bike segment, especially by vying for a place among the best commuter electric bikes on the market.
Raleigh's Array styling blends classic tan detailing on the seat and grips with huge silver mudguards and a drivetrain guard for those who want to protect their clothes from chain dirt.
The aluminum frame houses an exposed, rather than integrated, 400 Wh lithium-ion battery that supplies energy to the SR Suntour's rear hub motor. According to Raleigh, the motor can generate 400W peak for climbing steep grades or easing afternoon headwinds. The company also claims an assisted range of 60 miles and a recharge time of 5 hours.
One of the array's most interesting features is the 63mm SR Suntour Nex-E25 fork, which should make commuting a bit more comfortable. Instead of pneumatic springs, it uses low-maintenance coils, and it also has large 180mm brake rotors.
Array has a Shimano 7-speed drivetrain, Tektro cable disc brakes, and 700c x 47mm Vee Rubber Zient tires; the 90mm stem is adjustable and mounts to a 620mm M-shaped handlebar.
Integrated front and rear lights make the Array e-bike visible when riding before dawn or returning home after dark, and the rear rack can support up to 25 kg of luggage. The entire bike weighs 23 kg and is priced at 1,595 lbs.
