Final Truck Champions League game cancelled due to Omicron infection spread.

UCI and Discovery Sports Events announced the cancellation of the fifth and final round of the new track Champions League, scheduled for December 11 in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Health restrictions have been introduced and border closures forced in Israel due to the emergence and spread of a new coronavirus called Omicron.

"The UCI would like to thank the Tel Aviv organizers for their cooperation in this exceptional situation and for the understanding of the athletes, teams and all parties involved," the sports governing body said in a statement on Thursday.

Two rounds of the Track Champions League have already been held in Majorca, Spain, on November 6 and in Panevezis, Lithuania, on November 27.

Germany's Emma Hintze and Great Britain's Katie Archibald hold the overall lead in the women's sprint and endurance categories, respectively, after the first two rounds.

Sebastian Mora (Spain) has moved into the overall lead in the men's endurance after the second round, while Harry Lavraisen (Netherlands) has extended his lead in the men's sprint.

According to a press release, the round scheduled for November 20 in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, France, had already been canceled because the velodrome will be used as a vaccination center for COVID-19 until the end of the year.

Rounds 3 and 4 of the Truck Champions League will be held in London on December 3 and 4 to conclude the new series. In a press release, the organizers confirmed that the total prize money for the rider finals would not be affected by the cancellations.
