Sunday's Trofeo Alfredo Binda was interrupted mid-race due to a two-car collision that occurred outside the race caravan.
On the race's Twitter account, organizers described the accident as "serious" and said there was "currently no way to get through."
The peloton will leave Coquio Trevisago as scheduled and will run one lap of the large 71-km circuit before entering the 17-km finishing circuit, a total of 141.8 km, four times.
The race went neutral on the uphill past Brinzio on the large circuit, with Micaela Drummond (Bepink), Giorgia Vettrello (Top Girls Fassaboltolo), and Grunaz Katuntseva (Roland Kogeas Edelweiss Squad). The breakaway group of three had already gained a 35-second advantage over the peloton.
Race organizers worked for about 45 minutes to create an alternate route for the riders, which reconnected with the planned route through Brinzio, adding about 8 km to the total distance.
This eliminated the large climb up to Orino, but did not change the four-lap, 17-km finish course to Cittiglio, which was not affected by the detour.
The race crossed the finish line in Cittiglio with 70 km to go, with a final climb to Orino on the final lap with just under 8 km to go. There is a gradual climb to the finish line, but most sections are either downhill or flat.
"Back to racing!" the UCI's Women's World Tour Twitter account announced.
"So the race was restarted on the original route down the valley. The race course resumed at Cuvelio and will finish in the scheduled four laps."
.
The escaping trio was sent out in front of the peloton on the restart to protect their 35-second advantage.
Trofeo Binda is the third race of the season for the Women's World Tour.
