Tim Declercq will return to the Quick-Step Alfa Vinyl lineup at Wednesday's Dwars Door Hlaanderen, his first race since being diagnosed with pericarditis in February.
The Belgian domestique suffered chest pain and breathing difficulties during the opening stage and abandoned the Volta ao Algarve.
De Clercq had initially indicated that he was unlikely to compete in the 2022 cobbled classic, but had faint hopes that he might be able to compete in Paris-Roubaix, which this year takes place on April 17, a week later than usual.
He is now back competing ahead of schedule in the Dwar do Hlaanderen, but it remains to be seen if he will be among the finalists for Sunday's Tour of Flanders Quick-Step Alfavinir.
"I am happy that Tim is back from his illness. He has trained hard and we can't wait to see him in the race again," Director Sportif Tom Steels said in a statement.
With the absence of Kasper Asgreen, who is out of action here in anticipation of Sunday's Tour of Flanders, Quick-Step Alphavinir will be led by Yves Lampert, who won the race in 2017 and 2018, in the Dwars door Hlaanderen.
Lampert's preparations for the Classic were ruined by an illness that forced him to abandon Paris-Nice, and he returned to competition only in Gent-Wevelgem, where Quick Step endured another trying afternoon on the cobbles.
Asgreen, who finished 32nd, was their best finisher in Wevelgem as well as in the E3 Saxo Bank Classic. The team, led by Patrick Lefebvre, is expected to do well in their home town.
Fabio Jakobsen, winner of Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne in February, is also in this year's Quick Step lineup, along with Stijn Steels, Jannik Steimle, Zdenek Stybar, and Bert Van Lerberghe
"I am a member of the Quickstep lineup.
"Yves is on the up and up, and he proved it last Sunday.
The 184-km race from Roselare to Wallahem will be rerouted in 2022, featuring Zeelstraat, Stooktestraat, and Ladeuze, with a new finale over Holstraat.
While rondo favorite Wout Van Aert (Jumbo Visma) will be absent, Tadej Pogachar (UAE Team Emirates) and Mathieu Van Der Pol (Alpecin Phoenix) will make their first appearance on the cobbles this spring.
"The course will be completely different and hectic, with lots of climbing and narrow roads," Stiels said.
"There may be large groups all the way to the finish, but there will also be attacks.
