Tom Pidcock has signed a five-year contract extension with the Ineos Grenadiers.
Pidcock, an Englishman, has been eagerly awaited for the signing since it was revealed earlier this year that he was on the market for the 2023 season, but no new contract has yet been signed.
Earlier this month, however, Cyclingnews learned that the British team had fended off interest from several major bicycle brands, including Trek and Cannondale, and secured him on a long-term deal through the 2027 season.
Pidcock is now a mountain bike cross-country Olympic champion, a world cyclo-cross champion, and a road star.
However, Pidcock will remain with Ineos and Pinarello for the next six months. He said he was happy to remain with the team he "grew up dreaming of joining."
"Ineos Grenadier is the right team for me," said Pidcock, who finished third in Wednesday's Dwars Door Hlaanderen. 'It's been my home for the past year, and it's incredible to think that it's the team I grew up dreaming about.'
"It feels great to have the trust of the team and Ineos. It was clear from day one that I could spend the next five years of my career with this team because of the quality of the staff and the riders.
"Ineos Grenadiers has backed me all the way in every discipline I have raced in. From winning an Olympic gold medal in mountain biking to winning a world title in cyclocross, there has been no better support. This is definitely the place to be for my future goals of monuments, world titles, and maybe one day a Grand Tour."
Team principal Dave Brailsford praised Pidcock's versatility and said the team will continue to support the 22-year-old as he races road, cyclocross, and mountain bike.
"Tom is an incredibly talented cyclist, but it's his versatility that makes him stand out. Already an Olympic gold medalist, world cyclocross champion, and proven road winner, he is at the center of an exciting new generation of young riders who are growing in multiple disciplines and love serious racing."
"The values he brings to racing are a perfect match for the values of Ineos Grenadiers. He is very young, laid back and fun, but the intensity and determination he possesses is remarkable and he gives it his all every time he gets on his bike.
"The length of the relationship I have agreed to with Tom allows for his ambitious and multi-faceted goals, while also giving me the opportunity to learn from the wisdom and experience of his many champion teammates. I am very much looking forward to what we can accomplish together."
[24Pidcock, who has signed a contract to work for Ineos until 2027, is naturally thinking about what he can accomplish in that time.
After winning the cross world title in Fayetteville in late January, Pidcock switched to the road in February at Volta ao Algarve. His spring classic campaign was interrupted by stomach problems, but a podium finish at Dwars door Hlaanderen put him in contention for the Tour of Flanders.
However, Pidcock's long-term future is likely to center on Grand Tours.
"Of course I want to win the Tour one day," Pidcock, winner of the 2020 U23 Giro, told reporters on Thursday. I don't know when."
Speaking shortly after Pidcock, Servais Naveen suggested that one-day classics should continue to be a goal in the early stages of a career, and that Grand Tours should be considered later.
"We all know that Tom has great potential everywhere. 'He can climb, he's good in TTs, he's fast. He can certainly do well in the Grand Tours.
"First of all, I want to win the one-day race and pursue this dream.
In any case, Pidcock sees himself as the future core of the team, suggesting that he is at the center of a new generation being prepared for the future.
"Having signed quite a few young players, it's like building the next wave. If I can lead it and be a guide for the young riders that are coming up and create our own bubble and group, I think we will be really successful."
