British Continental team Le Cor Wahoo is "overjoyed" to receive an official invitation to the Tour de France Femme this July.
Ten UCI Continental teams were invited, and since Le Cor Wahoo was ranked 13th in the UCI rankings, the team had hoped to receive an invitation, but the news was confirmed Wednesday morning when ASO announced the 24 teams competing in the Tour de France femme
"The teams are all in the top 10."We were a little surprised and we learned about it two hours earlier than the other teams. Of course, we are really happy."
"I think last year we did our best and the team and the structure of the team has improved a lot. So we really had high expectations but it was by no means guaranteed"
.
In addition to the 14 world teams, ASO invited three top continental teams and four French continental teams.
"I was a bit lost because there are more and more French continental teams and they all want to race," said Varney. 'Stade Rochelle was getting better and so was (Saint-Michel) Aubert.'
Le Cor Wahoo has skipped the Giro Donne, the longest race on the calendar, the last few times and plans to do so again this year, but said the Tour de France Femme route is particularly attractive as a stage race.
"When I saw the route, I was also more than eager to participate," Varney explained.
"There's no TT, it's a mix of stages, there's no TT, it's a mix of stages, it's a mix of stages, it's a mix of stages.
Despite losing time triallist and proven GC rider Joss Roden from the roster in 2022, Varney is confident in the team's options in July.
"Some days we'll go for a breakaway, some days we'll prioritize someone sprinting. Then there is the Planche des Belles Filles stage with Aider (Merino). Obviously Jos has moved on, so no TT is perfect in terms of GC, and it could be decided in the mountain stages."
While the Tour de France Femme is an important concern for the teams, riders, and sponsors, Le Corps Wahoo also believes that the Women's Tour, Tour de Feminine, and Tour of Scandinavia are also important goals for the team in stage races this summer and that a balanced He wants to take a balanced approach.
"The Tour is a big draw for everyone, sponsors want to participate, and there is media coverage. But for us, the races on both sides are really important too."
"Obviously the Tour is on everyone's mind a lot, but we think the Tour of Scandinavia and the British races are equally important.
