Elisa Longo Borghini misses Amstel Gold Race due to cold

Trek Segafredo will be without Elisa Longo Borghini for Sunday's Amstel Gold Race Ladies Edition due to a sinus infection. Although she competed in last weekend's Tour of Flanders, she said she had been suffering from a lingering infection earlier in the season.

"This spring has been a bit of a roller coaster for me. I was going to start off not feeling well, but then I got hit with a seasonal cold, and I was battling a sinus infection for 15 days. I still have some left," Longo Borghini said before the Tour of Flanders on April 1.

At the time, Longo Borghini was hoping to make the start line in Oudenaarde, but said she was unsure how she would perform. She ended up finishing 33rd, 1:37 behind winner Lotte Kopecky (SD Worx).

Longo Borghini was originally scheduled to be one of the team leaders in the Amstel Gold Race, but Trek-Segafredo announced Thursday that he needed time to recover.

"Unfortunately, we will be without Elisa Longo Borghini for the Amstel Gold Race. She was supposed to be one of our leaders, but after a cold, will skip the Classic to give her a little more time to get back to her best. We will let you know her new schedule for the next few weeks," the team confirmed.

Trek-Segafredo will be joined by road world champion Elisa Balsamo, who has won three consecutive races in Bruges des Pannes, Trofeo Alfredo Binda, and Ghent-Wevelgem, Lucinda Brand, Leah Thomas, Shirin van Unroy, Taylor Wiles, and time trial world champion Ellen van Dijk.

Longo Borghini's participation in the Paris-Roubaix fam is also in doubt, depending on her recovery. She finished third in the northern hell, but her teammate Lizzie Deignan made history with a victory.
