Evenpole gets a warning from the Brabante Pail race judges for pushing Ben Turner.

Lemko Evenpoel was warned by the race judges at Brabant Pile for pushing Ben Turner of Ineos Grenadiers in front of the TV cameras.

The 22-year-old was part of an elite group that broke away from the peloton with 70 km remaining in the race, but was found to have reached out to push the Englishman behind the leading rider, Victor Kampenaerts (Lot Soudal).

Shortly after, news broke that the Quick Step Alpha Vinyl rider had received a warning from the race judges.

Such behavior falls under Part 8.2.1, Section 2.12.007 of the UCI Regulations (open in new tab), "Assault, intimidation, inappropriate behavior, indecent behavior, or behavior that endangers others" and carries a fine of CHF 100 to 1,000 and a small penalty in the UCI ranking. A fine of between 100 and 1,000 Swiss francs and a small UCI ranking penalty will be imposed.

However, for Remco Evenpole, the commissaires present at the race decided that a warning was sufficient, as it was not a violent shoving or punching match. [As reported in Nieuwsblad (opens in new tab), Evenpoel later apologized for pushing Turner and said his actions were unnecessary.

"That push was not intended or necessary. I just wanted to go with him. Pidcock came from behind and wanted to play a team game. That's their right. But that's racing and that's tactical riding.

"I apologized right away. It comes with racing, and it makes you nervous.
