Jumbo-Visma has unveiled special jerseys for the 2022 Tour de France and Tour de France Femme inspired by Dutch masters Rembrandt, Vermeer, and Van Gogh.
The 2022 Tour de France (open in new tab) jerseys are called "masterpieces," and AGU, racewear sponsor of Jumbo-Visma (open in new tab), said the designs were created using artificial intelligence and "from individual works and styles of the Dutch masters It explains that it was created by designers who "took inspiration from the individual works and styles of the Dutch masters. [The algorithm analyzed 50 paintings by Rembrandt, Vermeer, and Van Gogh to highlight small famous works," the team and AGU said.
"The most prominent works were composed into a design palette and 'masterpieces' were created for riders like Primosz Roglic, Wout Van Art (open in new tab), and Marianne Voss."
Jumbo Visma will have to race in a different jersey design, as the usual yellow and black colors were deemed too similar to the race leader's yellow jersey. Last year, the team incorporated the names of hundreds of supporters into the jersey design.
Primoš Roglic is expected to be the leader of Jumbo-Visma's Tour de France win and Jonas Vingegaard will be the alternate leader after his third palace in 2021. Wout Van Aert will again be in contention for a stage and possibly the green points jersey.
"Last year we released our first Tour de France special edition jersey with AGU. By putting fans' names on our official jerseys, we allowed them to be a part of our journey. It gave us the opportunity to take it a step further this year," said Richard Plug, Jumbo-Visma's team manager.
"It is exciting to have developed a jersey inspired by the three Dutch masters through innovation. This is a perfect example of our heritage and our future goals."
"We are very proud of the new jerseys,"
said Richard Plug.
The special kit, which includes a cap and gloves, will be available for purchase between April 14 and 25 and can be personalized with a custom race number and name or the name of a Jumbo-Visma rider.
