Marianne Bosch will miss Paris-Roubaix due to COVID-19

Marianne Vos will miss the Paris-Roubaix Femme after testing positive for COVID-19 a few hours before the race. The Dutchwoman finished second in the first edition of the race last year, chasing the winner, Lizzie Deignan.

"The disappointment is very great," Vos said in a statement released by her Jumbo-Visma team Saturday morning. [I was looking forward to this match. When I tested positive this morning, my world fell apart for a moment. But I stand by the team's policy. We should not risk our health. I'm going home, resting and hoping that I'll continue to feel better."

Vos tested positive as part of Jumbo Visma's daily COVID-19 test on Saturday morning, just hours before the start of the Paris-Roubaix Fam. a second test confirmed the positive test. The second test was positive.

The remaining Jumbo-Visma riders (Romy Kasper, Colin Labecki, Linda Readman, Tüntje Bakehouse, and Lee Jeanne Marx) tested negative and will start Paris-Roubaix.

Vos was clearly one of the key riders on Saturday, and she was set to compete as last year's top runner after Deignan was eliminated. She had also skipped her title defense in Amstel Gold to focus on the second round of the cobbled women's race, marking it as a clear target.

On the eve of the race, all was well for the Jumbo Visma riders, and there were no signs that would stop them from lining up for the special teams.

"I'm feeling great and I'm really looking forward to it. We've tested a lot of tire pressures and we're ready to go as a team," Vos said on the eve of the race.

"It's a cliché, but it's true. Especially in a competition like this, you can't do without luck," Vos added. It has to be a good day, and there can't be any breakdowns. We'll see what happens." Nevertheless, that luck was not on her side until Voss was on the starting line.

Had COVID-19 not intervened, Jumbo-Visma would have come into the race with the leading competitors in both the women's and men's versions. However, Wout Van Aert, who missed the Tour de Flanders and the Amstel Gold Race due to COVID-19, will compete in a support role rather than as a leader.
