Lotte Kopecky (SD Worx), who won back-to-back Tours of Flanders with Strade Bianchi, was one of the favorites to win her second year in Paris-Roubaix Fam, but despite an aggressive ride, Elisa Longo Borghini's (Trek-Segafredo) solo victory
With 50 races to go, the winner of the first race was the winner of the second race.
Kopecký attacked with 50km remaining and was in a breakaway group that included Marta Bastianelli (UAE Team ADQ) and Lucinda Brand (Trek-Segafredo).
"I tried to do something here to put pressure on the other teams," Kopecký said. But the other teams didn't cooperate 100%. But the other players didn't cooperate 100 percent. So I tried to hold the gap, but I didn't put in a lot of effort to save my legs."
"So it was more about putting all the teams under pressure or putting them under pressure rather than really going for that move," said the Belgian road champion.
Kopecky, who came in as the most successful rider in the Classic so far, said he did not let the pressure get to him.
"After two wins ...... I was really prepared to do my best for my teammates. And that was my mentality when I started this race. I didn't let the pressure get to me, I just wanted to enjoy the race and race with heart and attack. And I put pressure on all the teams
"This is Paris-Roubaix," he said.
When Borghini attacked, SD Walks could have put Chantal van den Broeck-Blark in a counter position, but instead it was Elena Cecchini who followed Borghini, along with Emma Norsgaard.
"This was the race then. 'Elena was in the best position to chase Elisa. But in the end Elisa was too strong." [Norsgaard was also a really strong rider and she dropped her too. This is a sign that Elisa is very, very strong."
Kopecký made one last strong move in sector 7, Sisowing a Bourgel, and closed the gap to Borghini significantly, but was unable to close the distance as Kopecký attacked almost unassisted.
"At that moment, I didn't expect to get an assist. I was just trying to keep a high pace and build a good group to reach Elisa. But Elisa was pretty strong today."
