Tom Devlint Paris-Roubaix was a dream race.

The 2022 Paris-Roubaix was a day to remember for Tom Devlint. But with just 40km to the finish line, Tom Devlint of Intermarché Wanty-Gobert Materio was able to hold off Wout Van Aert (Jumbo-Visma) and Stéphane Cung (Groupama-FDJ), who were in a position to take the lead alone.

The 30-year-old Belgian rider, whose best result in the Classics was 30th at the 2018 Tour de Flanders, was caught up but stuck with the group of Van Aert, Küng, and Matej Mohoric (Bahrain-Victorias) and fought for a podium finish in Roubaix. In the end, he missed out on one place, but there was no look of disappointment after his fourth-place finish, just joy at having achieved the best result in the team's history at Monument.

"It was the best day of my life. It's crazy to finish fourth at Monument! Fourth at Monument, that's crazy! Racing at the front allowed me to make some amazing splits early in the race, and it also kept me out of trouble when a lot of guys crashed on the first cobblestone section of the day."

"When I saw Matej Mohoric accelerating with 100km to go, I didn't hesitate to follow him. When I was leading alone, I knew I needed to conserve my energy for when I had to join the favourites, so I chose my own pace. I chose the pace"

.

It happened with less than 30 km to go.

"It was the first time I had competed for the win in such an important classic race and I really had to dig deep. It was especially painful when [winner] Dylan van Baar accelerated. In the last kilometer, I realized I was racing for a top-five finish in Paris-Roubaix."

Despite missing the podium, Devlint was euphoric about his performance. He said, "It's a dream come true. Yes, the podium is something else, but I have to be happy with my performance. I'll never forget this."

And with teammate Adrien Petit in sixth place, the small WorldTour team became the only team to have two riders in the top 10. In addition, the team had three riders in the top 20: Alexander Kristoff in 12th, Taco van der Hoorn in 16th, and Andrea Pasqualone in 19th.

"I did my best. My performance is part of the team's remarkable success," Petit said. [On the velodrome I did my best to stay with the group behind my teammates. I'm really happy to be on the podium considering my ninth and tenth place finishes in the previous races.
