Annemiek van Fruten breaks her wrist in a practice crash.

Less than a week after his decisive win in Liege-Bastogne-Liege, Annemiek van Fruten broke his right wrist in a training crash on Thursday.

A message from the Movistar team on Friday morning revealed that he suffered a broken wrist and underwent surgery Thursday night.

"The Movistar team regrets to inform you that their leader Annemiek van Fruten crashed during training on Thursday and broke her right wrist. The Dutchwoman underwent surgery last night at the Rheinstate Hospital in Arnhem."

After a series of frustrating second places in Strade Bianche, La Flèche Wallonne, and the Tour de Flanders, van Breuten finally took his biggest win of the season in Liege-Bastogne-Liege.

However, it is now possible that she will miss some of the major Spanish races that occupy the next month of the women's calendar, such as the Ituria women's and the Vuelta a Burgos Feminas.

The team is sticking to its big goals for the season despite the uncertainty of van Breuten's injury.

"While there is no timetable for Van Breuten's recovery, the doctor's assessment of her fracture following surgery confirms that a full recovery is expected," the release stated.

"Annemiek's approach to the Grand Tour in July (Giro d'Italia Donne + Tour de France Femme) will also not be compromised by this injury.
